LEISURE

At Avington Fishery, just half a mile away, you will find some of the best trout fishing in the South of England. Rates are £35 for two fish, £60 for four fish.
If you are planning a weekend's fishing, check out our accommodation pages. If not simply call by for a pint and some great food.
The picturesque Park Golf Course is just half a mile from the Trout and provides stunning views of Avington House and down the Itchen Valley. The nine-hole course opened in 1995 and has matured nicely, being kept in excellent condition, year round.
The Itchen Valley itself provides excellent walking country and the Trout is an excellent place to venture from. You can walk the grounds of historic Avington House which in the mid 17th century was used by King Charles 11 and Nell Gwynne, and enjoy the stunning views of the lake and the river.
The Trout is also an excellent base to explore much of what the South has to offer - from the preserved heritage steam railway, the Watercress Line two miles along the road at Alresford; the cathedral cities of Winchester just four miles away and Salisbury 34 miles; Stonehenge 30 minutes drive, as well as the New Forest National Park, and the naval city of Portsmouth, home to HMS Victory and the Mary Rose, 32 miles away.
